RSS Feed Processing Delays

Incident Report for Letterhead

Postmortem

Incident Summary: RSS Feed Processing Delays

What happened
Earlier today, we experienced a brief infrastructure disruption that caused some RSS feeds to temporarily fail validation. During this window, a subset of feeds may have appeared as “failed” or triggered additional notifications.

Impact

  • RSS feed ingestion was briefly disrupted.
  • No data was lost.
  • Most feeds resumed normal operation automatically once systems recovered.
  • Customer-facing functionality remained largely unaffected.

Resolution
Our systems recovered automatically once the underlying issue cleared. We verified that RSS processing returned to normal and confirmed no ongoing feed failures.

What we’re doing next
We’re making a few improvements to further reduce noise and improve resilience:

  • Improving how we handle short-lived infrastructure interruptions so transient issues don’t surface as feed failures.
  • Adding safeguards to ensure RSS feeds recover automatically without manual intervention.
  • Continuing infrastructure tuning to reduce the likelihood of similar disruptions.

Takeaway
This incident was brief and low impact, but it highlighted areas where we can make the platform more resilient and quieter during short interruptions. Those improvements are already underway.
